This robot is called the Passive Sprawling Robot (PSR). I integrated the robot's software on the BeagleBone Blue with the Robot Operating System and designed custom printed circuit boards (PCB) with AutoDesk Eagle.  
I was awarded a $500 UCR Undergraduate Research Mini-Grant to subsidize costs to create a multi-agent systems with this robot platform.
